So far, each season, there’s one guest who is a kindred spirit of mine & this season it’s Missy. She was practically Raised in the AUC IN THE PRINT SHOP – she tried to buck the system and go to Mass Comm in college, but still came back full circle to Graphic Design & Branding. In our conversation with Missy, we learn that being a creative & being a creative business are two different things. A piece of advice she gives during our interview is to make use of all of your networking opportunities.
One of my favorite childhood memories is standing in a print shop fascinated by print machines, varieties of paper, aromas, and the ever gratifying mixing of ink. My mom was a print specialist and graphic designer back in the 90’s and I would spend my evenings after school at the print shop; fascinated to say the least.
I continued to be art and tech-savvy through grade school, and went on to pursue Fine Arts in college; refining my design skills through application and practice.
In 2016, my husband’s employer relocated our family to Beaumont Texas, and Hummingbee Designs manifested to fill a void in creative opportunity in the area. Inspired by frequent hummingbird visits to my great-grandmother’s yard and my love for her, I decided to incorporate the hummingbird into my business name. My name, which has a Greek origin, and means honey bee, also proved fitting as a reflection of my energetic spirit and bubbly personality. I am addicted to Starbucks and Chik- fil – a, and think dry humor and sarcasm are essential to a fulfilling life.
I’m thankful for the ability to take ordinary ideas and create distinctive design, and look forward to working with you soon!
